Sergio Bregante received his professional degree in architecture from Buenos Aires University’s School of Architecture and Urbanism in 1990. Through 1991 Mr. Bregante continued with his advanced studies in “The Geometry of Design” at the Academic Integration Program of the University of Buenos Aires and in “Social Architecture: The Strategy for Housing in the Year 2000” at the Rafael Leoz Foundation of Spain. Following the completion of his studies, Mr. Bregante worked with Buenos Aires’ architects Aisenson S.A. and MacKinlay-Vignaroli S.A. as project architect and construction supervisor.
In 1993 Mr. Bregante moved to New York City to join Eisenman Architects where managed the firm’s extensive computer technologies systems and served as a project architect for several distinguished projects including the firm’s exhibition at the Canadian Center for Architecture, Emory University’s Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, the Holocaust Memorial in Vienna, the Vatican’s Church for the Year 2000 and the BFL Software Headquarters in Bangalore.
In 1997 Mr. Bregante began work with Robert Kahn Associates and the artist Frank Stella as project manager for several residential, institutional and art installation projects. Noteworthy projects with Robert Kahn include the Jones St Residence, a 5,000 square feet townhouse renovation and Green Street Films, a 6,500 square feet office and production studios construction. With Frank Stella, Mr. Bregante’s projects include the Costantini Museum Competition in Buenos Aires, the Mori Ropongi Sculpture in Tokyo and the St. Petersburg Monument in St. Petersburg, Russia. During this same period Mr. Bregante also worked with the artist Antoni Muntadas on several art installations including the Westside Multi-Generational Center in Tempe, Arizona; The Donors’ Room in Birmingham, Alabama and On Translation: El Tren Urbano in San Juan, Puerto Rico; as well as with artist Teresita Fernandez, Regina Silveira, and others.
Mr. Bregante set up his own practice in 2001. Characteristics of his work include an experimental approach to innovative design, an exploration of the places where collaborations and design disciplines converge, and extensive studies investigating the applications of technological advances in digital design media. Examples of his projects include the west 19th street Residence, a 1,650 square feet loft renovation in New York’s Chelsea; 196 Kensington Park Road Residence, a 500 square feet apartment renovation in London’s Notting Hill; Montalvo Artists Residency Program, a comprehensive Identity program and environmental graphics for its new facilities in Saratoga, California; west 26th street Residence, a 1,700 square feet loft renovation in New York’s Chelsea; east 79th street Residence, a 6,000 square feet townhouse renovation in New York’s Upper East Side and west 20th street Residence, a 3,750 square feet townhouse renovation in New York’s Chelsea. Currently Mr. Bregante is working on a 10,000 square feet townhouse renovation at Waverly place in New York’s Greenwich Village.
