Waverly Place Townhouse
Greenwich Village, New York, NY
One of the largest single townhouses recently renovated in NYC, this Greenwich Village eighteen apartments building from the 19th century underwent a radical and challenging renovation that completely restructured the space, transforming it into a light-filled single-family home.
The house now features a pool on the roof, terraces at numerous levels, a full-floor master suite and a media center.
Three different structural systems were combined to achieve in-depth changes including the installation of a full size elevator and the opening of a new interior atrium, traversing the house and bringing additional natural light to all floors. A complete demolition and reconstruction of the rear façade converted the old masonry wall with small openings into a new, mostly glazed wall with balconies on every floor. The street facade was restored inside and out, and niches with linear lights and translucent glass were added for lot-line windows. Inside, all the carpentry was made in solid wood, complementing it with lacquered finishes, waterfall marble counters, and other demanding materials and finishes.
